Shark Awareness Day
Shark Awareness Day is here to teach us about these mighty giants and to protect them. Sharks are rarely seen in Slovenian parts of the sea. The basking shark is not dangerous to humans and is on the endangered species list. It was last seen in Slovenia on April 13, 2014, near Piranska punta – the westernmost point of our country.

Company TOMOS is established
Tomos is a motorbike company that was established in July 1945. It has produced some of the iconic motorbikes, now ridden by all generations. The collection of old-timers can be seen at the Museum of Tomos History in Koper.

The first Slovenian aviator Edvard Rusjan is born
On this day, 1886, the first Slovenian aviator, Edvard Rusjan, was born in Trieste. Brothers Rusjan made a model and later, based on it, their first plane called Eda-1. Edvard Rusjan attempted his first flight on November 25, 1909, near Gorica.

Josef Ressel was born
Josef Ressel was an inventor and forester. On June 29 1793, he was born in The Czech Republic but spent a part of his life in Slovenia. His most important invention is his ship's propeller which was developed on the river Krka. However, this wasn't his only invention – his legacy encompasses many more, including the first map of Krakovski pragozd or plans for the reforestation of Karst and Istria.

Prehistoric Pile Dwellings added to the UNESCO World Heritage List
On this day in 2011, pile dwellings on Ljubljansko Barje (Ljubljana Moores) were included in UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. In this area, some invaluable historical artefacts were discovered, among which one of the most important finds are the remains of the world's oldest wooden wheel. The wheel and its axle are 5200 years old.
